Connecticut

How about this for Connecticut? It works the same whether for single, double or triple digit numbers.

It's based on the Charter Oak.

US Routes on Expressway.

By Expressway I mean what "road geeks" call Freeway. They are for the non-Interstate highways that are fully-controlled access (no traffic lights or intersections, no driveways) that are up to interstate standards* or otherwise.  Here are some examples.

Route US 1, no tolls.
Various sections in New England,
the Northeast, North Carolina and Florida.

Where Route US 1 is a toll road:
Tobin Bridge, Boston; GWB Bridge, New York;
and Delaware River Bridge, Trenton NJ - Morrisville PA.
Small size shown here.

Route US 19 in Pinellas County, Florida,
and in Metro-North Atlanta, Georgia.
Small size shown here.

Route US 93 in Vegas.

Route US 101 in California.

Bud Schuster Freeway in PA.
Unless they use the scheme for US Route Interstates in my previous post.

* Interstate standards: 12-foot travel lanes, a full 10-foot right hand breakdown lane, full left hand breakdown land for highways three travel lanes or more in one direction, 16'-6" clearance underneath the overhead bridges (overcrossings and sign bridges), no more than 6 percent grade..

Maryland, Series 2.

And I came up with another idea, based on Marylad's state flag.

Maryland State Flag.

First, I had the state name hidden in the red-and-white banner.
Unfortunately, it's too hidden.
So I decided to let it be seen.

Much better!
And this sign shape works for 1, 2 and 3 digit routes.

Maryland, Series 1

Hi, I just want to put up these ideas which I also sent to RV Droz of The Great International Highway Makeover some years ago. They are based on the present Saskatchewan design, but modified with the Maryland state logo.  They can also be viewed in thumbnail size here at the Highway Makeover site.

New York, Expressways.

How about these? They are similar to Quebec Autoroutes, but are distinctive, because of the watermark.

New York, Second Series.

These are colorised permutations of the existing black-and-white New York state route marker.

Like the first series, the state routes would adopt the colors of the 1970s NYS license plates and the county route markers would adopt the US FHWA standard county road colors, with two variances: there would be a watermark in a slightly paler blue, and the route number would be in goldfinch yellow, not US FHWA standard Spanish Orange (warning sign Yellow).

New York, First Series.

This is another sign series idea sent to RV Droz's website. It has both state route and county route markers. State route markers are in the color of the NY license plates of the 1970s. County route markers are same as for the FHWA standard pentagon county route marker, but the number is in goldfinch yellow for better nighttime visibility.
